Welcome to your Certificate in Applied Technology Unitec course 2012

We will be experiencing a large range of learning activities this year, making new friends, developing the ability to operate within teams and developing several products from a variety of materials.
Recording our experiences and activities is very important.

I will update this Blog often as a form of diary and notice board during the year. I often just drop in links to information and comments that reflect upon my personal view as to how the year is progressing.
We will also develop skills within a range of tools in which we may communicate throughout the year
So...Welcome. I'm sure we'll have a full and valuable year together.

The first Link I have for everybody to access is the free online pdf book. "Gougeon Bothers on Boat Construction".

This is an invaluable resource that has a large range of boat building techniques. The more familiar you become with these techniques the more comfortable you will become with the "Trade Terminologies" (Trade Terms) we use in boatbuilding. This is our Boatbuilding language and the key to understanding the theoretical topic matter. Discussion using this trade term language and experiencing building activities by using 'real' materials to produce objects is where most people gain the depth of insight they need to start fully comprehending the diverse subject we call "Boatbuilding".
Lastly we need to record and critique/conclude these stages in our learning journey.

Another link I'll give you here is to enable you to start your first Blog.

I'd prefer for each student to use their Unitec Wairaka gmail account to work with me this year.
As enrolled students' at Unitec you should have been given a google account (G-Mail) it may look different than you are accustomed to seeing in google, as it will have (@wairaka.com) as the domain name, rather than gmail.com.
Even if you have a personal gmail account I'm going to ask you to use the Unitec domain as this is available to you in perpetuity. (forever). Unitec will never remove your access from your wairaka.com G-mail account.
This year we will use a lot of the web 2.0 tools that are available in google, so please be sure to get this functioning. If you have any troubles getting it going please see your tutor or me to ask for help.
